Trams 

Nottingham Express Transit’s (NET) tram service offers a convenient solution to travel to Meadow Lane.

Nottingham’s tram system consists of two lines covering over 50 stops, 7 of which are Park and Ride sites offering 5,000 free parking spaces.

Line 1 runs between Toton Lane and Hucknall and has a total end-to-end journey time of 62 minutes. Line 2 runs between Clifton South and Phoenix Park and has an end-to-end journey time of 47 minutes. Both lines converge between Nottingham Railway station and the city centre so whichever line you travel on you can reach the Railway Station which is the nearest stop to the Meadow Lane stadium.

Nottingham Railway Station which is approximately 1000 metres from Meadow Lane. Turn left out of the Station and walk past the taxi rank on Queens Road and carry on right up the junction of London Road. Use the crossing to cross London Road and turn right following the canal and turn left onto Cattle Market Road the ground is approximately 100 metres on the right. The route is relatively flat with only slight inclines at the station and as you approach London Road.

Net operate a turn-up-and-go service, with trams from every 7-15 minutes (or every 3-10 minutes in the city centre).

** If you have a concessionary pass issued by Nottingham City Council or Nottinghamshire County Council you can travel free (09:30 – 23:00 during the week and anytime at weekends) on the tram. While concessionary passes from other areas do not qualify users for free tram travel, they do qualify for a £4.20 day ticket. Concessionary tickets are only available from the ticket vending machines.

Please note that all Park and Ride sites have height barriers with a restriction of 2.2M. Parking is free for users of the NET system with a valid ticket from the point of parking. There is no overnight parking available at any of the Park and Ride sites without prior permission.

Access for all on the trams

All NET trams are 100% low floor this means that there are no steps to negotiate. Four sets of wide double doors with white strips for enhanced visibility on each tram, with warning sounds for when doors are opening and closing. There is only a small gap between our tram doors and the tram stop platforms which makes boarding easier.

High contrast floor colourings in front of the doors contrast with the rest of the carriage floor making the area more visible. Extra space near the doors allows easy access on and off the tram for wheelchairs and buggies.

Electronic signs and audible announcements tell you the destination of the trams and the next stop. If you are using a priority seat and you’re asked to give up your seat by another customer who is less able to stand, your assistance would really help everyone on board.


NET staff receive special training on disability awareness and our drivers are also trained to allow people with visible disability more time to get on and off the tram.

Dedicated wheelchair spaces

There are two dedicated spaces on every tram which have a help button and a blue stop request button at an appropriate height for wheelchair users. By pressing the blue button, whilst on board the tram, you instantly signal to the driver that you require extra time to alight. For your own safety please ensure that the wheelchair is positioned correctly in the specified bay with the back toward the backrest.

Guide and assistance dogs

NET welcome guide dogs and assist dogs on the tram. The drivers monitor the CCTV cameras to be sure that all customers who want to get on and off the tram have done so and the doors are clear before closing the doors and setting off.

Mobility scooters

The carriage of mobility scooters is currently being reviewed as part of an industry wide initiative to deliver a consistent set of regulations. At present, all categories of mobility scooters are permitted to travel as long as they can safely board and exit the tram and then park in the wheelchair space. Please park the scooter with the back against the backrest.

The layout of tram stop platforms

All the tram stops are laid out in the same way. The platform edge is white and has a tactile paving to identify the kerb. Special paving showing the wheelchair sign indicates the appropriate place for wheelchair users to wait so they are near to the specific wheelchair spaces when they board.

The tram stops are well-lit, have electronic displays providing real-time information showing when the next tram in due to arrive, emergency help points so that customers can talk to a member of staff and shelters which include a passenger information display. For additional safety and security all tram stops are monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day.

Visually impaired customers that require assistance with using either the stop equipment or the tram should contact the customer care team by telephoning 0115 824 6060. A member of the tram team can arrange to meet you and explain how to use the stop facilities and the tram. 24 hours’ notice will be requires to take advantage of this service: however NET cannot guarantee that this facility will be available on all days due to operational circumstances.


Blue badge parking

The tram network has over 5,000 car parking spaces available at 7 Park and Ride sites. The Park and Ride site are open daily from the first tram to the last (approx. 05:30 until 01:00). All sites are cleaned daily and patrolled by NET staff as well as being monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day.

There is designated blue badge parking for disabled customers at every Park and Ride site.
